A student may still be working below classroom expectations while making important gains in confidence, accuracy and independence. Those gains often lead to stronger results over time. Personalised support means responding to evidence, not continuing with the same worksheet because it is familiar.

At home, parents can protect the learner’s confidence by keeping maths conversations calm and specific. Praise effort, strategy and willingness to try rather than labelling a child as naturally clever. Ask, “Which part makes sense so far?” or “What have you tried?” These questions invite thinking.
