StudentScholars Public Speaking Competition – April 2026
Introduction
Step up to the mic and let your voice be heard! StudentScholars Private School proudly hosts its annual Public Speaking Competition for students ages 4 to 12. This event is designed to build confidence, sharpen communication skills, and empower young speakers to express their ideas clearly and passionately.
Participants will present speeches on age-appropriate topics, engage with an audience, and receive constructive feedback from a panel of judges.
Why Participate?
This competition is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their public speaking skills, boost self-confidence, and embrace leadership in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Event Details:
Date: Saturday, April 4th, 2026
Location: StudentScholars Private School Units 2 & 3, 60 Riviera Drive, Markham ON L3R 5M1
Eligible Ages: 4 to 12
Each age group will participate during its scheduled time slot, followed by an award ceremony immediately after.
Participation Fee: $25
To secure your child’s spot, both the registration form and payment must be submitted before the deadline.
Registration Deadline:
Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, at 5:00 PM. No registrations will be accepted after this deadline.
Please note: A minimum of 8 participants per grade/group is required for the competition to proceed. If this requirement is not met, you will be notified at least 2 days in advance of the competition date.
Competition Time Schedule
Participants are asked to arrive at least 10 minutes before the competition begins.

Group 1: 10:00 - 11:00 am

Group 2: 12:00 - 1:00 pm

Group 3: 2:00 - 3:00 pm
Age Groups & Speech Focus
🟢 Group 1 (Ages 4–6)

Speech Type: Show & tell, short memory recitals
-
Duration: 30 seconds to 1 minute
🟡 Group 2 (Ages 7–9)
-
Speech Type: Simple speeches, storytelling, poems
-
Duration: 1 to 2 minutes
🔵 Group 3 (Ages 10–12)
-
Speech Type: Structured speeches, opinions, debates, persuasive talks

Duration: 2 to 5 minutes
Competition Rules

Registration:

Open to students ages 4 to 12. Registration must be completed before the deadline.

Speech Topics:
-
Participants will be given 5 age-appropriate topics aligned with the focus areas of their group. Participants must choose ONE topic and prepare the speech on.

Originality and relevance to the assigned topic are encouraged.

Speech Length:
-
Speeches must adhere to the time limits specified for each group (see above).

Judges may deduct points or disqualify if speeches significantly exceed or fall short of the time limits.

Preparation:

Participants are encouraged to prepare their speeches in advance.

Notes or cue cards are allowed but should not be read verbatim.

Delivery:

Emphasis will be on clarity, confidence, expression, and engagement with the audience.

Use of gestures and eye contact is encouraged.

Conduct:

Respect for fellow participants, judges, and audience is mandatory.

Disruptive behavior may lead to disqualification.

Awards will be presented for categories including Best Speaker, Confidence, and Originality.

All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Arrival:

Participants should arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled speaking time.
