StudentScholars Lunar Art Competition – February 2026
Competition Overview
Celebrate the Lunar New Year through the power of art! Open to children aged 4 to 12, this exciting event invites young artists to express their creativity through drawing, painting, and mixed media, while learning about the traditions and symbolism of this vibrant cultural celebration.
Event Details:
Date: Saturday, February 7th, 2026
Location: StudentScholars Private School Units 2 & 3, 60 Riviera Drive, Markham ON L3R 5M1
Eligible Ages: 4 to 12
Each age group will participate during its scheduled time slot, followed by an award ceremony immediately after.
Participation Fee: $25
To secure your child’s spot, both the registration form and payment must be submitted before the deadline.
Competition Time Schedule
Participants are asked to arrive at least 10 minutes before the competition begins.

Group 1: 10:00 - 10:30 am

Group 2: 11:30 - 12:15 pm

Group 3: 1:30 - 2:30 pm
Registration Deadline:
Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, at 5:00 PM. No registrations will be accepted after this deadline.
Please note: A minimum of 8 participants per grade/group is required for the competition to proceed. If this requirement is not met, you will be notified at least 2 days in advance of the competition date.
Age Groups, Focus Areas & Time Limits:
🟢 Group 1: Juniors (Ages 4–6)

Time Limit: 30 minutes

Focus: Open expression using shapes, colors, and imagination.

Mediums: Crayons, markers.
🟡 Group 2: Intermediates (Ages 7–9)

Time Limit: 45 minutes
-
Focus: Guided projects—festive characters, cultural elements, basic techniques.

Mediums: Colored pencils, pastels, paints, or mixed media.
🔵 Group 3: Seniors (Ages 10–12)

Time Limit: 1 hour
-
Focus: Theme interpretation, shading, perspective, and creative use of materials.

Mediums: Colored pencils, pastels, paints, or mixed media.
Competition Rules:

Theme Requirement

Artwork must reflect Lunar New Year themes (e.g., zodiac animals, lanterns, dragons, traditional celebrations, etc.).

Original Artwork Only
-
All entries must be the student’s own original work. Tracing or copying existing art is not allowed.

Allowed Materials

Drawing, painting, or mixed media on paper or canvas board.

All materials will be provided during the in-person competition.

Time Limits & In-Person Participation

Students must complete their artwork within their group’s time limit (30, 45, or 60 minutes).

A timer will be displayed, and students must stop when time is called.
